The
following terms and conditions of business apply to all Maasai trails
trips. The receipt of the deposit indicates formal understanding
and acceptance of our terms and conditions of business.
Booking
a Maasai Trails safari
- Maasai trails
will provide a full quotation without any financial obligation.
All quotations issued by Maasai trails will remain valid for a
period of 30 days.
- The company
recommends that you secure and non-refundable deposit of at least
10% per person to confirm the safari, with the full balance of
payments being due 21 days prior to the departure date.
- Changes
to confirmed reservations made within 30 days of the tour departure
date will be charged according to the cancellation penalties outlined
below.
Cancellations
All cancellations
must be made in writing to Maasai trails. These ensure you receive
written confirmation that your cancellation has been received by
us. All cancellations will be charged the cancellation penalty depending
on the number of days before tour departure that the cancellation
is received.
Important information
What is included:
- Transport
is included: either by small aircraft or in four-wheel drives
with expert driver guides.
- English,
Dutch, Maa, (and French) speaking guides.
- All camping
equipment including three-person tents (each tents shared by two
people) comfortable mattresses and stools. All your necessary
bedding, including towels.
- Three meals
a day while on safari whether vegetarian or none vegetarian, prepared
by experienced safari cooks, drinks (including a limited amount
of wine in beer). Included are walking snacks, and pre-dinner
drinks and snacks.
- The donkeys
will carry the majority of the equipment, however it is advisable
to bring along a carrier pack for any personal needs.
- Safari
bucket shower (hot shower) after are walking
- All your
water requirements will be taken care of, but you are welcome
to bring along any additional water you feel you may need.

Is this a malaria area?
A. No, it is not necessary to take antimalarial drugs.

Is it possible to receive a telephone signal in Loita for my mobile
phone?
A. There is no network in Loita.
Q.
Will there be a lot of interaction with the Maasai people?
A. Yes, the emphasis will be upon cultural exchange and learning
how the Loita Maasai live and what is important to them.
Q.
How safe is it to walk in Loita?
A. Prudence is always recommended when walking in a wild place in
Kenya. However, you will be accompanied by Loita Maasai, who know
everything there is to know about the area and will ensure your
safety while on the safari.
What to bring:
- Money for
personal spending and tipping.
- Sturdy
waterproof walking shoes and comfortable shoes for in the camp.
- Jackets,
waterproof and windproof for possible rain.
- Sweaters,
a sweatshirt and fleece.
- Trousers:
long trousers for the walk to protect your legs. Lightweight and
easy dry is an advantage.
- Shorts.
- T-shirts.
- Swimming
trunks, for rivers and waterfalls.
- A torch,
sunglasses, and insect repellent/spray (even though there is no
malaria in Loita). Toothbrush and toothpaste and your own preference
of soap.
- Your cameras,
films, binoculars.
- A small
backpack for your belongings. The Maasai guides are willing to
carry everything for you.
Flying Doctor:
We recommend that whilst travelling around Kenya, in addition to
your personal travel insurance, you take out the Flying Doctor Service
for emergency evacuation cover valid for two months at US$ 50 per
person within a 500 km radius from Nairobi (which includes Loita).
This is an extremely reliable service.
